Welcome to our latest blog, where we will explore the wonderful world of special finishes. In recent years, we’ve seen bathrooms in Jersey boom with personalisation and aesthetic charm. The upturn in availability has given us plenty to play with as we try to guide you to your very own luxurious retreat.
Chrome Or Colour?
While chrome offers good corrosion resistance, it can be prone to pitting and tarnishing, especially in environments with high humidity or water exposure (i.e the bathroom), as the protective layer wears down over time. The hardness of chrome is lower than that of PVD, making it more vulnerable to scratches and scuffs from abrasive materials or aggressive cleaning agents.
In contrast, PVD finishes produce a harder, more resilient surface with better adhesion to the base material. They are designed to withstand higher temperatures and maintain their appearance longer under various conditions, making it less likely to discolour or degrade. While chrome plating may appeal to those seeking a classic look, PVD finishes generally provide better durability and longevity, making them a preferable choice for both style and substance.
PVD
Let’s start with the science. The Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process is a technique used to apply a durable and colourful finish to brassware. This process not only results in superior quality, which is resistant to scratching, tarnishing, and corrosion, but also allows for a wide range of colour options, making it a popular choice for special finishes.
PVD finishes can still be susceptible to wear if not maintained correctly, so gentle cleaning methods are recommended to preserve their aesthetic over time.
Powder Coating
Powder coating provides brassware with durability and resistance to scratches and fading. This process not only elevates the visual appeal, giving it a sophisticated, understated look, but also makes it easy to maintain as it is less prone to fingerprints. While powder-coating offers a stylish and durable finish, it’s important to note it may require specific cleaning methods to avoid damaging the coating.
Let’s now get to the fun stuff, and take a look at some of the options we love.
Bronzes
Bronze brassware brings a warm and inviting aesthetic to the bathroom, adding richness and depth with its earthy tones.
The versatility of bronze complements various colour palettes, making it a stylish accessory in a chic, modern environment, and enriches rustic design themes with a sense of character and nostalgia.
Brushed Metals
Brushed metals offer an understated elegance to the bathroom, characterized by their subtle, satin finish that reduces glare. Muted tones provide a contemporary yet timeless look, easily complementing a variety of styles.
Matt Black
Matt Black brassware pairs well with various design themes, from minimalist to industrial, allowing for personalized flair.
It adds a sleek and contemporary edge to bathroom decor, creating a striking contrast against lighter surfaces and tiles. Otherwise, pair it with darker tiles to deepen the visual drama of the space, and create a more modern, seamless look.
White
White brassware brings a fresh and modern twist to the bathroom, characterized by its clean, crisp appearance that maintains a sleek and polished finish. Its bright surface can effortlessly enhance natural light, making the space feel larger and more open. We think this finish pairs particularly well with soft, pastel palettes.
